In keeping with tradition in this final month of the year, here is my version of the My Life in Book Titles tag (or is a meme?). The idea is to answer a series of questions using the titles of books read in 2025, making sure not to use the same title more than once.

You’ll find a variety of questions for My Life in Book Titles doing the rounds but I’m sticking with those I’ve used for the past six years. Links will take you to my reviews (some are yet to be written!). This is meant to be a bit of fun so don’t try to read anything deep and meaningful in any of my answers.

In high school I wasThe Queen of Dirt Island by Donal Ryan
People might be surprised byThe Aftermath by Rhidian Brook
I will never be: (A) Force of Nature by Jane Harper
My fantasy Job is: The Glassmaker by Tracy Chevalier
I hate being: On the Beach by Nevile Shute
I wish I had: (A) French Braid by Anne Tyler
My family reunions are: Unsettled Ground by Claire Fuller
At a party you’d find me with: The Grey Wolf by Louise Penny
I’ve never been to:  (The) Elephanta Suite by Paul Theroux
A happy day includes:  Excellent Women by Barbara Pym
Motto I live by: Rules of Civility by Amor Towles
In my next life, I want to have: Glorious Exploits by Ferdia Lennon

Well this was a little more challenging than last year since the titles of many of the books I read just didn’t match up easily to the prompts. But it was still fun. Why not have a go yourself. If you want a different set of prompts take a look at ShelleyRae’s post at Book’dOut. or Margaret’s at BooksPlease

    1. Thanks for sharing your list

  2. […] prompts using only books read this year (and without repeating any). You can also find examples at BookerTalk and 746 […]

  3. I’m going to give this a try this year – thanks for sharing. I loved Rules of Civility, I need to read more by Towles. I can’t agree about hating being on the beach, it’s one of my favorite places. But I think beaches are a love it or hate it kind of thing. Wishing you a very happy new year.

    1. I used to love beach holidays when I was younger but now find it uncomfortable to lie/lounge around in the hear for any length of time.

  4. Love your take on this post. I have my Life in Books post scheduled for tomorrow based on the prompts by ShelleyRae. I, too, found it, it more difficult than in previous years to match the titles to the prompts but I always have fun doing it. Amor Towles also made my list for “The Lincoln Highway” I loved it and definitely want to read more of him.

    1. Shelley’s list is rather different to the prompts I used (no idea where they originated!).

  5. LOL, I love the fact your family reunions are unsettled!!

    1. I was being rather naughty there.

  6. Love this! Excellent Women for the win

    1. We had a meeting of minds on this one

  7. I hope your family reunions settle down this year! I’m posting mine tomorrow using the same prompts as you.

    1. Our Boxing Day celebration (my dad’s 95th birthday) went without a hitch.

      1. Many congratulations to your dad. I’m glad it went well.

  8. Cleverly done!

    1. I like doing this because it means I can refresh my memory of what I read this year

      1. Sounds like a plan!

  9. I enjoy these posts. They’re a good way of looking back at what we’ve read over this year. I missed your review of Unsettled Ground in July – what an amazing book and from your description it reminded me too of On the Black Hill by Bruce Chatwin. It’s going on my wish list.

    1. On the Black Hill is a fabulous book – and equally fabulous film. Unsettled Ground is going to feature in my favourite books of the year. yes its that good

  10. Your book title for family reunions made me laugh!

    1. Oh dear, I hope my mum doesn’t read my blog posts!

  11. Here’s mine: https://anzlitlovers.com/2025/12/30/in-2025my-life-in-books
I found it difficult because my books didn’t match too well, maybe I should have done what you did.
    Love your motto!

    1. I did look at the prompts you used but decided they didn’t fit well with what I read. You found a good match to the prompt on “In 2025 I missed out on: “

      1. These things often need a little tweaking, especially for things I don’t really relate to.

  12. Great job!! I love this one: My family reunions are: Unsettled Ground by Claire Fuller
Is this a blog revamp?? I tend to see your posts on my phone so I don’t pay attention to design.

    1. I had to change my blog design earlier in he year when the theme I was using was discontinued (no prior warning given) and I couldn’t access the site. The new theme isn’t ideal but I don’t have the energy to change it now

      1. Ah! Been there-sucks. No warning. It looks nice though.
