No this isn’t a photo of all the books in my home just waiting for me to read them. My pile looks decidedly more untidy than this…

It’s actually an installation called aMAZEme created as part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad. Two Brazilian artists Marcos Saboya and Gualter Pupo worked with volunteers over 4 days to create a labyrinth from 250,000 books. The pattern was apparently inspired by the labyrinthine stories of  Brazilian author Jorge Louis Borges. Visitors can walk amongst the 8 feet high walls of books while listening to an audio tour.

It sounds like a fabulous experience that brings new meaning to the expression ‘lost in a book’. Perhaps it’s fortunate that I can’t get there – it would be too tempting to just pull out one book ‘just to have a look’ and then sending the whole thing tumbling.

The event is free and on at the Southbank Centre until August 25. Check the Cultural Olympiad website for opening times.

  1. Ooh I read about this in a newspaper and thought to myself: ‘I soo have to got here’!! thanks for reminding me and stopping by my blog! I do agree that towards the end ‘Perfume’ becomes slightly fantastical!
