Caryl Lewis’s second novel in the English language is a tale of love and redemption. At its heart is a recently widowed woman who examines her long marriage through letters left by her bee-keeping husband. I’m hoping this will be as good as her first English-language novel Drift.

  1. The Hill in the Dark Grove was one of the titles I contemplated reading for this month, but as I’m concentrating on reducing my TBR pile it’ll probably now have to wait for next year’s event!

    1. I can relate to this Chris. I start each year with good intentions of reading more from my TBR list but then I get tempted by mentions/reviews of other books. The only positive is that I now borrow as many as I can from the library rather than buying them

  2. Will definitely look out for the new Cynan Jones … I’ve loved everything by him that I’ve read.

    1. He’s brilliant at capturing the essence of a place

  3. I read The Hill in the Dark Grove earlier this year and found it very atmospheric. I’ll have to investigate some of these other books – The House of Water sounds good!

    1. Hill in the Dark Grove does sound good – I won’t get to it this month but will be putting it on my to read list for later in the year

Such a great mix of titles and genres here. Where to start?!

    1. You could used the tried and tested method of sticking a pin into the list…

  5. These all look worth a go. I’ll see what the library can deliver. Thanks!

    1. Hope they have plenty of options for you

      1. They usually have something. Just got to read the 10 I already have out …..

        1. I get over enthusiastic and order several at a time – then they all come at once and I can’t read them fast enough

        2. It’s a pain. It’s like buses. Nothing comes for weeks, then they all come at once!

        3. And now the mail has become just like buses. We go for days without anything through the letter box then get a pile all in one day

        4. All from the bank, the local authority, or junk …
