    I would love to read the long list but … nope, it’s not going to happen. But I’m very curious about which books make it. Do we have any guesses? Did Mantell’s Bring up the Bodies get published in time to make it?

      It’s a good question about Mantel.I suspect it just missed the deadline but could be wrong – though even if it did squeak into the frame, it would be a hell of an achievement for her to win again wouldn’t it……

    Even if I gave up working and got someone else to do all the housework i am not sure I have the stamina for 8 hours or so of reading over that period of time. It doesn’t feel much like pleasure…….

    Well, at least there’s a decent amount of time to try and read the long list. Who am I kidding! I say I’m going to do it every year and never get anywhere near completion. There was one year, however, when a friend of mine was chosen to shadow the judges and asked to read nineteen books in twenty-one days and did it! Now that took stamina.
